History & Legal Status

The International Committee for Study of Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium (ICSOBA) is an independent non-profit association that unites industry professionals representing major bauxite, alumina and aluminium producing companies, technology suppliers, researchers and consultants from around the world.

ICSOBA was formed in 1963 in Zagreb (Yugoslavia), and during the past 49 years it has become a well recognized and truly international organization. The main objective of ICSOBA is to promote the exchange of ideas and results of the work from different fields of research related to bauxite exploration and mining, and alumina and aluminium production.

Since 1963 some 30 ICSOBA events - symposia, congresses and seminars - were organized in different parts of the world and proceedings were published as printed Travaux volumes until 2010, and as electronic files thereafter.

Since December 2011 the seat of ICSOBA moved from India to Canada, where it is legally registered with Corporations Canada, Ontario under number 802906-7, and with Registraire des Entreprises, Québec under number 116798181. Administration and general contact is done from ICSOBA's executive office in India.

ICSOBA also publishes for its members a half yearly Newsletter which consists of technical papers, news & views and diary of events.

Two major events are:

·        ICSOBA-2012, the 19^th International symposium in Brazil, with support of ABM, Associação Brasileira de Metalurgia, Materiais e Mineração, and ABAL, Associação Brasileira de Aluminio, from 29 October to 2 November in Belém.

·         ICSOBA-2013, the 31^st International Conference and celebration of ICSOBA’s 50^th Anniversary. To be held in co-operation with the International Congress and Exhibition of Non-Ferrous Metals Siberia in September 2012 in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.
